Located 35km west of Toowoomba, the JBS Beef City Plant is part of the Beef City integrated feedlot, processing and farming facility. The cattle are walked from the feedlot to the plant, minimising stress and transportation costs, while simultaneously improving eating quality – one of only two in southern hemisphere. Specialising in grain-fed beef production, the plant employs approximately 950 employees with a current processing capacity of 950 cattle per day and has a strong reputation for producing high quality grain fed beef for key domestic and international customers.

About the Role

The JBS Beef City Plant is currently recruiting for an Apprentice Maintenance Fitter to join our busy Maintenance Team. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with optional overtime available on Saturdays.

 

JBS offers some of the most competitive employment conditions in the industry, with this role covered under the Beef City Maintenance Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA), which determines pay classifications and employment conditions.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing skills and knowledge to help maximise equipment uptime through effective preventative and breakdown maintenance
  • Following all safe work practices and procedures
  • Working collaboratively under the guidance of qualified tradespeople
  • Following instructions from tradespeople and supervisors
  • Attending TAFE and completing all required training components

 

Renumeration

Adult apprentice wages are paid as a percentage of the applicable tradesperson rate. First-year apprentices commence at 75% (approximately $1,413 per week), increasing progressively to 80% in year two, 84% in year three, and 90% in year four.

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you must hold a current open driver’s licence and have access to a reliable vehicle, as there are no public transport options available to the site.

  • Demonstrated interest in the trade
  • Previous experience within the meat industry advantageous, but not required
  • Organisational and time management abilities
  • Completion of your High School Certificate highly regarded
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement approach
  • Ability to support a broad variety of mechanical work
  • Good attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to work different shifts if required
  • Full Australian working rights
  • Current drivers licence and reliable transport
  • Good understanding of mathematics
  • Basic understanding of computer systems
