Located 12km south of Townsville, a major gateway to Queensland’s world-renowned Great Barrier Reef, the JBS Townsville Plant is JBS Australia’s most northern operation. Cattle are sourced from a wide supply area, including the Northern Territory, north and north-western Queensland and packed into the AMH brand, the most trusted name in beef. The plant employs approximately 500 team members with a processing capacity of 900 head of cattle per day, operating 5 days per week.
About the Role
Due to an internal development opportunity, our Townsville Plant is currently recruiting a Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) and Return to Work (RTW) Coordinator to join the team on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the WHS & RTW Coordinator will work closely with the management team and play a vital role in the successful operation of the processing plant, ensuring a safe and compliant workplace while supporting the effective management of workplace injuries and facilitating employees’ safe and timely return to work.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Promote and influence a positive safety culture across the site
- Liaise with key stakeholders on WHS and Injury Management with a strong focus on continuous improvement and best practice
- Ensure safe systems of work are implemented and followed in accordance with Company policies and procedures
- Utilise the WHS Safety Management System Matrix to plan, monitor and review compliance
- Facilitate consultation activities including toolbox talks, safety observations and consultative committee meetings
- Conduct incident investigations and prepare detailed reports, ensuring corrective actions are implemented
- Perform WHS audits and inspections, identifying risks, hazards and improvement opportunities
- Maintain accurate administrative records, including reporting and safety statistics
- Provide workplace rehabilitation support in line with legislative and Company requirements
- Oversee the onsite injury management early intervention clinic
- Ensure the effective operation of the site first aid office
- Collaborate with the Workers Compensation team on injury management processes and claims progression
About You
- Demonstrated experience in WHS and Injury Management (IMC)
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (or higher)
- Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator certification (or equivalent)
- Fire Safety Advisor training (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong working knowledge of the WHS Act 2011, relevant regulations, Codes of Practice, and Australian Standards
- Sound understanding of Queensland workplace rehabilitation legislation
- Experience within a large, self-insured organisation (advantageous)
- Well-developed negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Strong organisational, time management and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment
