The JBS Beef City Feedlot is part of the integrated Beef City facility consisting of farming, feedlot and processing operations. The cattle are walked from the feedlot to the plant, minimising stress, carbon emissions and transportation costs while simultaneously improving eating quality. Ideally located in the prime grain and cattle producing region of the Darling Downs, 35km west of Toowoomba, the 26,500 head capacity feedlot has a strong reputation for producing high quality grain fed beef for key domestic and international customers, and employs approximately 50 team members.

About the Role

The JBS Beef City Feedlot is currently recruiting a passionate Animal Health leader to join the team as a Leading Hand.

 

Reporting to the Animal Health Foreperson, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Daily supervision/mentoring of livestock personnel
  • Contributing to the daily monitoring of animal health, performance and water troughs, including cleaning, data entry/auditing of livestock records and cattle movements
  • Drafting and processing receival and dispatch of cattle
  • Diagnosis and treatment of cattle in accordance
  • Ensuring team compliance with all Policies and Procedures of including OH&S, Animal Welfare and Environmental requirements
  • Follow instructions from the Livestock Supervisor & Fore persons for any livestock activity including cattle wash
  • Other duties as required to support other sections of livestock and feedlot teams

 

About You

  • Previous experience in a leadership role
  • Experience with low stress animal handling and strong horsemanship skills
  • Previous animal husbandry and/or feedlot experience
  • Ability to work unsupervised as well as part of a team
  • Sound communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient record keeping skills and strong attention to detail
  • Good work ethic and a willingness to share information and skills
  • Ability to assist in training, mentoring and developing employees to required standards
  • Ability to embrace change and convey new concepts

 

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 suitable horses and tack
  • Ability to work an allocated roster (8 days on – 6days off – 10 hour shifts)

 

Please note: All horses must be vaccinated for Hendra virus prior to entry at all JBS sites. Proof of vaccination details will be required prior to offer/commencement of employment.
