Hygiene Manager
Lead a Critical Function at the Heart of Food Safety and Site Performance
We are seeking an experienced Hygiene Manager to lead site-wide sanitation and hygiene operations on night shift within a large-scale food manufacturing environment.
This is a critical leadership role accountable for the hygiene, sanitation and cleaning standards of the entire site. Leading a large operational team, you will ensure the highest standards of food safety, compliance and operational readiness while driving a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and excellence.
Your leadership will play a direct role in protecting product integrity, maintaining regulatory compliance and supporting world-class manufacturing performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all hygiene and sanitation activities across the site, ensuring safe, efficient and effective execution of cleaning operations.
- Drive a culture of ownership, accountability and high performance across a large hygiene team operating in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, quality, environmental, regulatory and workplace safety requirements.
- Maintain hygiene programs aligned with internal standards, customer requirements, BRCGS certification and industry best practice.
- Own pre-operational hygiene activities, ensuring production areas are released to the required standard and effectively handed over to Quality Assurance and Operations teams.
- Lead hygiene audit readiness and ensure all records, documentation and verification activities are accurately maintained.
- Develop team capability through coaching, training, performance management and succession planning.
- Manage external cleaning contractors and chemical suppliers, ensuring service delivery, cost effectiveness and compliance obligations are met.
- Oversee the effective management of cleaning chemicals, consumables, equipment maintenance and hygiene inventory.
- Conduct hygiene inspections, risk assessments and compliance audits to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Lead microbiological investigations, corrective actions and root cause analysis to eliminate recurring issues.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance hygiene performance, efficiency and operational reliability.
- Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance and Supply Chain leaders to ensure site hygiene standards support operational excellence and customer expectations.
- Champion best-practice hygiene standards and influence stakeholders across all levels of the business.
About You
- Significant leadership experience in hygiene, sanitation, food safety or quality within a large-scale food manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of hygiene and sanitation requirements across both high-risk and low-risk production areas.
- Proven ability to lead, engage and develop large operational teams in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing food safety compliance, audit programs and regulatory requirements.
- Advanced problem-solving, investigative and root cause analysis capability.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence outcomes across multiple functions.
- Commercially minded with experience managing contractors, suppliers and operational budgets.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and a commitment to achieving operational excellence.
- A visible, hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and drives continuous improvement.
