Sustainability Project Engineer
About the Role
As the JBS Southern Project Engineer, based at our Brooklyn facility and supporting operations across four regional processing sites, you will play a pivotal role in advancing sustainability and operational excellence across the Southern Division.
You will identify, develop and lead the end-to-end delivery of innovative capital expenditure projects that drive meaningful business outcomes. Working closely with site and operational stakeholders, you will champion best-practice initiatives across the division while fostering a data-driven, continuous improvement culture that delivers sustainable performance improvements, enhances efficiency and supports the long-term success of the business.
What You'll Be Doing
- Facilitate and project manage the delivery of innovative capex projects and process improvements across the business for JBS to deliver on its sustainability targets.
- Develop financial costings, present business cases for senior management, prepare and submit capital projects in conjunction with Plant leadership teams.
- Manage nominated capital projects from initiation, design, costing, proposal submission, approval, and implementation through to completion, including auditing achieved savings.
- Scope large capex projects relating to energy, water, waste, and other environmental impacts.
- Identify and assess new technologies and innovations across energy, waste, water, animal care, and people safety to support and develop the broader JBS sustainability strategy.
- Use a data-driven approach to understand root causes of sustainability issues, analyse system and equipment weaknesses, and recommend effective solutions.
- Collaborate across business units, share best practices, and engage with external parties including relevant industry bodies and specialists.
- Work proactively with corporate, business units, and site teams while showing leadership in building a sustainable and safe work environment.
- Ensure compliance with regulations, including Sarbanes-Oxley legislation, conduct regular compliance reviews with your line manager and Financial Controller, and facilitate team training.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mech Eng preferred).
- Preferably 5+ years of experience in an engineering role within the FMCG environment.
- Proven experience in managing capital budgets and sustainability engineering projects.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of Australian safety standards and sustainability engineering compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
