Lead Engineering Performance at the Largest Beef & Lamb Processing Site in the Southern Hemisphere

 

JBS Australia is the region’s largest beef and lamb producer, and part of the world’s 3rd largest Food & Beverage company. Our Brooklyn facility is the largest multi-species processing site in the Southern Hemisphere, operating extensive Harvest floor and meat fabrication machinery that services both domestic and export markets.

We are seeking an experienced Plant Engineer to join our engineering leadership team. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role provides operational and technical leadership to a significant maintenance workforce, including 1 Supervisor and up to 40 tradespeople.

This is a hands‑on, high-impact role suited to an engineering professional who thrives in fast-paced, high-volume, highly regulated food manufacturing environments.

 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily engineering and maintenance operations across beef and lamb Harvest floor and fabrication machinery
  • Implement and optimise preventive, predictive, and reliability-centred maintenance systems
  • Lead, coach, and develop a maintenance team including a supervisor and up to 40 tradespeople
  • Ensure maintenance resourcing aligns with production demands in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Manage contractors and specialist service providers for efficient service delivery
  • Analyse maintenance and production data to improve equipment performance, uptime, and reliability
  • Participate in site projects, upgrades, and infrastructure improvements
  • Drive WHS, environmental compliance, and safety excellence across all engineering activities

 

What You Will Bring to the Table

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline
  • Extensive plant/maintenance engineering experience within food manufacturing (meat processing highly regarded)
  • Strong leadership capability with experience managing supervisors and large trade teams
  • Hands-on knowledge of kill floor, fabrication, or other high-volume food-processing equipment
  • Proven problem-solving skills (RCA, 5-Whys, PDCA, KPI-driven decision making)
  • Solid understanding of WHS and environmental regulatory requirements
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-compliance production environment
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience with refrigeration and boiler systems (desirable)
  • Postgraduate training in maintenance or reliability engineering (desirable)
