Plant Engineer Brooklyn

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Plant Engineer, with a high-performance mindset, to join our engineering management team in Brooklyn, Melbourne. The Brooklyn Plant is the largest multi-species processing site in the Southern Hemisphere supplying products locally and in export markets.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager this role forms an integral part of the leadership network working within our engineering team of over 60 people. Your well-honed technical, plant operational and management skills will be fundamental to your candidacy, however success in this role requires a demonstration of leadership skills necessary in sustaining a culture of high performance, safety, team retention/development & continuous improvement. You will be known for your ability to develop collaborative & time critical solutions using solid engineering principles to support multiple operational functions performed on site.
Your technical, operational, and management skills are crucial, but leadership in high performance, safety, team development, and continuous improvement is key.
Responsibilities:
- Manage engineering and maintenance operations
- Develop and implement maintenance systems and strategies
- Monitor daily maintenance activities
- Provide guidance to maintenance and production staff
- Ensure maintenance staffing meets plant needs
- Efficiently use contractors and suppliers
- Support sustainability goals
- Analyze production and maintenance data for improvements
- Represent maintenance in project teams
- Communicate effectively with management and staff
You will also bring to the table:
- Engineering degree (postgrad in maintenance management is a plus)
- Excellent leadership and team management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Experience in food manufacturing
- Problem-solving skills (PDCA, ‘5 Whys’, KPIs)
- Experience with refrigeration and boilers is a plus
- Knowledge of WH&S and environmental regulations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment and possess a strong drive for operational excellence
