Diamond Valley Pork is currently recruiting an experienced Stockperson to join the team in a full-time capacity. Reporting to the Kill Floor Manager, this role will best suit someone who is passionate, motivated and is available to work Sunday to Thursday. The role incorporates various tasks associated with the receival, movement and record keeping of livestock.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

 

Daily livestock handling including livestock movements, pen up.

Maintaining accurate records of stock movements

Maintaining compliance with JBS Australia policies, including but not limited to: WHS, HR, QA, Animal Welfare and Environmental obligations

Maintaining yards as required

About the Role

The JBS Pork Division is currently recruiting a Drover (Stockperson) on a full-time capacity on Monday to Friday to assist with daily livestock handling, recordkeeping and movements. This role will best suit someone who is passionate, motivated and available to work weekends.

 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Daily livestock handling including livestock movements and pen up.
  • Maintaining accurate records of stock movements.
  • Ensure compliance with JBS Australia policies and procedures, including but not limited to: WHS, HR, QA, Animal Welfare and Environmental obligations.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

About You

  • Strong knowledge of meat processing operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of animal welfare practices and requirements, along with unconditional compliance to these requirements.
  • Sound knowledge of employment, WHS, QA and company policies and procedures.
  • High level communication skills, initiative and attention to detail.

Core Responsibilities 

 

  • Ensure adherence to relevant Department of Agriculture and Company QA guidelines regarding animal welfare and hygiene.
  • Report incidents to the Abattoir Supervisor and / or QA Manager.
  • Train staff in consultation with the Abattoir Supervisor.
  • Liaise with the Livestock Coordinator on matters pertaining to customer orders (i.e. Kill Agenda).
  • Ensure the welfare of pigs from the time of arrival to slaughter.
  • Ensure pigs held in the Lairage are fed within 24 hours of last feeding.
  • Allocate pigs to pens in conjunction with the Livestock Coordinator.
  • Ensure that all pigs have passed ante-mortem inspection before slaughter and ante-mortem cards accompany pigs through processing.
  • Report all non-conformities to the Abattoir Supervisor and / or QA Manager.
  • Ensure all sick, injured or dead animals are managed as per guidelines in consultation with the OPV, and report directly to the Livestock Coordinator.
  • Clean and sanitise the Lairage including loading ramps, bays and associated paving.
  • Report any animal welfare issues, and unsafe / unhygienic surfaces, drains and gates to the Abattoir Supervisor.
  • Check the captive bolt gun daily.
  • Ensure compliance with ‘withholding periods’.
  • Ensure all animal welfare audits are prepared and arranged with the QA Manager.
  • Ensure annual objectives are regularly reviewed and met.
  • Contribute to key business activities as required.
  • Adhere to all Company policies, procedures, processes and work instructions at all times, and ensure appropriate actions are taken to implement and monitor at a site level.        
  • Perform duties in an ethical, lawful and safe manner.
  • Adhere to WHS obligations and Company WHS policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all incidents, hazards, risks, breaches and complaints are actioned in line with Company procedures.
  • Ensure all personnel under your leadership (if applicable) are aware of their roles and responsibilities in accordance with the Company WHS Management System.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of Meat Processing operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of animal welfare practices and requirements, along with unconditional compliance to these requirements.
  • Sound understanding of employment, WHS, QA, and Company policies and procedures.
  • High level communication skills, initiative and strong attention to detail.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Preparedness to work flexible hours.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
