Environmental & Wastewater Manager
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Environmental & Wastewater Manager to join our leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity to drive environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives and continuous improvement across one of Australia's largest food manufacturing sites.
Reporting to the Site Leadership Team, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across all environmental activities, with a major focus on waste water treatment, requiring strong technical leadership, risk management capability and a proactive approach to compliance, process optimisation and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will oversee the treatment plant's operational performance, environmental compliance obligations, capital improvement projects and long-term treatment strategy. You will work closely with production, engineering, maintenance and regulatory stakeholders to ensure the site continues to meet environmental obligations while driving sustainable business outcomes.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a technically strong environmental or process engineer background with significant experience managing industrial wastewater treatment systems in a complex operational environment.
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental, Chemical, Process Engineering or related discipline
- Extensive experience (ideally 5+ years) managing or leading industrial wastewater treatment operations in a food processing, meat processing, manufacturing, water utility, industrial processing or similar environment
- Demonstrated experience operating and optimising large-scale wastewater treatment systems, including biological treatment processes
- Strong understanding of activated sludge systems, anaerobic and aerobic treatment processes, dissolved air flotation (DAF), nutrient removal and sludge management
- Proven experience managing wastewater compliance under Environmental Authorities and trade waste requirements
- Experience interpreting wastewater performance data and driving treatment plant optimisation initiatives
- Experience managing environmental risks, incident investigations and regulatory engagement
- Experience with irrigation management systems and nutrient management programs
- Knowledge of Queensland environmental legislation and Environmental Authority compliance frameworks
- Experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
