About the Role

JBS Pork Australia is currently recruiting for a Research Program Supervisor to join our team in a permanent full-time capacity.  Reporting to the Research & Innovation Manager, you will be responsible for large scale project management and leading a team of Technical Officers to achieve successful, industry leading research in animal health, nutrition, behaviour, reproduction, growth, and physiology.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise a team of Technical Officers responsible for project implementation and data collection, including: management of rosters, overseeing daily work schedules, recruitment, performance reviews and performance management (in conjunction with P&C, where required).
  • Challenge and provide leadership and training opportunities for the Technical Officer team to ensure continuous staff development and research projects are completed to a very high standard.
  • Prepare and coordinate work schedules and oversee implementation and execution of R&I projects. 
  • Initiate improvements to work systems and infrastructure that will enhance research outcomes, staff productivity and workplace safety.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Rivalea Animal Ethics Committee and ensure Animal Welfare standards are adhered to and managed accordingly in the capacity of Project Supervisor.
  • Implement and manage computer-based feeding systems (i.e., Big Dutchman) to ensure continuous feed delivery, including the provision of constant on-call monitoring, technical assistance and trouble shooting.
  • Provide technical assistance to other departments within the Farming Operations team.
  • Liaise with the Farming team to consider production targets and other business activities.
  • Manage trial silos and feed deliveries.
  • Integrate maintenance works within production requirements.
  • Coordinate the movement of livestock between sites and for market.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets (as required).
  • Maintain an understanding of current management strategies used in production as they relate to research trials.
  • Ensure annual objectives are regularly reviewed and met.
  • Contribute to key business activities as required.
  • Adhere to all Company policies, procedures, processes, and work instructions at all times, and ensure all appropriate actions are taken to implement and monitor at a site level.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

 

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Animal Science or related field, or equivalent experience in animal research.
  • Sound degree of physical fitness.
  • Thorough understanding of holistic pig production gained through extensive practical experience.
  • Sound understanding of research methodology.
  • Sound knowledge of Animal Welfare regulations.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.
  • High level communication skills, initiative and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to promote a positive workplace culture and willingness to drive continual improvement in workplace processes.
  • Effective organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Preparedness to work flexible hours.
  • Demonstrated advanced computer skills.
  • Current driver’s licence.
