Role Summary
Reporting to the Cobram Safety Lead, the Safety Officer supports the effective implementation, planning, coordination, and daily execution of WHS initiatives, work programs, and safety activities aligned with the Site WHS Strategy, Safer Together goals, and the Southern Business Unit Five Pillar Plan.
The role contributes to the delivery and monitoring of key safety initiatives, provides support in injury and incident management, and undertakes essential compliance activities. It plays a proactive role in driving risk‑reduction efforts, identifying emerging safety trends, and supporting the implementation of timely and effective corrective and preventative actions to strengthen overall safety performance.
Core Responsabilities
- Support the delivery, coordination, and monitoring of site‑based safety programs and initiatives.
- Assist with injury and incident management, including reporting, investigation, documentation, and follow‑up actions.
- Undertake essential compliance activities to ensure adherence to WHS legislation, standards, and internal procedures.
- Contribute to proactive risk‑reduction efforts through hazard identification, control implementation, and monitoring.
- Identify emerging safety trends and provide insights to support continuous improvement.
- Support the implementation and tracking of effective corrective and preventative actions to strengthen overall safety performance.
- Collaborate with workers, supervisors, and the Safety Lead to promote a positive safety culture and drive engagement in WHS initiatives.
- Support preparation and coordination of internal and external WHS audits and regulatory inspections, including tracking and closure of corrective actions.
- Provide regular progress updates, performance insights, and implementation status reports to the Cobram Safety Lead.
- Support and promote HSR engagement initiatives and programs to strengthen safety awareness, participation, and behavioural risk reduction
- Prepare weekly WHS performance reports including:
- Injury and Incident metrics from incident reports and First Aid data.
- WHS compliance performance measured against the WHS Compliance Matrix.
- Ensure overdue or non-compliant WHS activities are escalated to the Cobram safety Lead and corrective actions are implemented.
- Ensure Risk Assessments are conducted as required for changes to processes that require changes to tasks.
- Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate IV in OHS or related discipline
- Minimum 2 years’ experience supporting WHS management systems within a medium-high risk or operational environments
- Demonstrated experience in incident investigation, hazard identification, and risk assessment processes
- Experience supporting WHS compliance activities aligned with legislative and organisational requirements
- Skills & Attributes
- Knowledge of Victorian WHS legislation, regulations, and risk management principles
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis skills
- Ability to support WHS programs, initiatives, and compliance activities
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills with the ability to influence safe work behaviours
- Organisational and planning capability with the ability to manage competing WHS priorities
- Reporting skills with the ability to interpret WHS performance data and identify improvement opportunities
- Ability to work collaboratively with operational leaders while maintaining WHS governance standards
- Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure WHS documentation, reporting, and compliance activities meet organisational and legislative requirements
