About the Role
JBS Australia is currently recruiting an experienced and pragmatic in-house Legal Counsel (Commercial) to join the JBS Group Legal team. This is a permanent full-time position based at our Corporate Head Office in Brisbane City.
Reporting to the General Counsel and working within a high-performing team of four legal professionals, you will be responsible for providing high quality, timely, practical and solutions based legal advice to stakeholders at all levels on a wide range of issues to help grow and protect JBS Australia Group’s commercial interests.
Responsibilities for the Legal Counsel includes (but not limited to):
- Providing general and strategic legal advice to our operational units and corporate functions
- Reviewing, drafting and, where appropriate, negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts, including procurement, sales, marketing and IT contracts.
- Addressing contractual queries which arise during the term or following expiry/termination
- Assisting with the management of regulatory matters and contractual disputes
- Drafting reviews and amending procedures, policies and precedent documents as required relating to compliance, governance and risk management
- Identifying emerging legal issues and changes to legislation, and formulating appropriate recommendations
- Engaging, instructing and managing external providers as required
- Other ad-hoc tasks as requested by General Counsel
About You
- Hold a current unrestricted practicing certificate in an Australian jurisdiction
- Minimum 5 years post-qualified experience (PQE)
- Demonstrated experience within a business environment (in-house legal or other commercial experience)
- Strong technical legal skills in contract related matters
- Able to respond calmly in difficult situations maintaining a strong customer service focus
- Takes a commercial and pragmatic approach
- Exceptional ability to prioritize and multi-skill
- Excellent attention to detail including adherence to deadlines
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
- Proven ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels and takes other's perspectives into consideration
- Must be energetic, passionate and enthusiastic with a demonstrated focus on system improvement
