Strategically located in Hemmant near the Port of Brisbane, the JBS Cold Store facility receives a high volume of truck and container loads of product from all the JBS sites around Australia, which are then re-loaded for our domestic and international customer orders and readied for transport. Our Hemmant facility employs approximately 140 team members, operating 5 days per week.
About the Role
Our Hemmant Cold Stores leadership team is currently recruiting a Food Safety Supervisor to join the team in a full-time capacity.
As the Food Safety Supervisor, you will support the Cold Stores Manager by supervising the Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) Officers on a day to day basis, whilst ensuring we are meeting all legal and licensing requirements.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Building a competent, capable and committed workforce to meet present and future organisational needs
- Providing an environment for effective performance by providing the appropriate job tools and motivation
- Ensuring a positive industrial relations environment is maintained at all times
- Developing, implementing and maintaining the documented Approved Arrangement (AA) including the HACCP plan
- Ensuring the AA is current and operating as intended, including document archiving and retrieval as required
- Drafting any AA amendments and submitting these amendments to the Department
- Ensuring the FSQA / MHA documentation and monitoring procedures are performed as prescribed
- Ensuring that JBS is well informed of all relevant legislation, food safety issues, legislative, scientific and technical developments including overseas country requirements (e.g. market access, halal, labelling etc.)
- Maintaining up-to-date reference standard documents and lists and ensuring that the updates are distributed and explained to relevant team members
- Ensuring the maintenance of necessary certifications and accreditations (e.g. export and state food authority, Organic, etc.)
- Ensuring key customer focus requirements (e.g. McDonalds) are compiled and liaised with as required
- Ensuring the closing out of CAR’s / non-conformities by their due date(s) and The Department issues are responded to in writing in a timely manner
- Ensuring that a description of general duties is in place and communicated to all staff
- Overseeing corrective action including product retention, disposition and subsequent supporting documentation
- Ensuring that the regulatory standards are being achieved in all areas of the Cold Store covered by the FSQA system
- Conducting regular meetings to discuss trends and areas of concerns with key contractors
- Participating in The Department audits with food safety assessors and overseas reviewers
- Preparing requisitions to maintain stocks of official documents and security items
- Reporting any serious deviations from security procedures such as loss of accountable items to management team
- Conducting third party cold store audits on behalf of the Company
About You
- Previous people management experience including developing and leading successful teams
- Sound knowledge and application of HACCP principles
- Competent in report writing covering such requirements as continuous improvement projects, correct action investigation reports
- Strong focus on customer compliant reduction strategies
- Competent in industry regulations and standards such as AUS-MEAT / MSA
- Understanding of The Department website e.g. ELMER, MICoR,
- Competent in customer complaint interrogation and trend analysis
- Internal Audit Certificate
- Demonstrated computer literacy in excel, word and outlook
- Ability to respond calmly in difficult situations whilst maintaining a strong customer service focus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills with an understanding of Root Cause Analysis
- Conflict and resolution skills including the ability to negotiate and deal with auditors
- Exceptional ability to prioritise and multi-task
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
