About the Role
Due to an internal transfer, we are seeking an Engineering Manager to join the team. This role has responsibility for a wide range of engineering and maintenance activities associated with the operations of our fast-paced manufacturing facility in Wacol, Brisbane. This is a senior leadership position within the maintenance team that is hands on and requires extensive plant knowledge.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring all team members are appropriately trained in the safe operation and control of all plant and equipment and that all policies and procedures are in line with appropriate statutory and legislative requirements
- Ensuring all new equipment, work methods, plant operation and design comply with OH&S policies and procedures
- Coaching maintenance staff to achieve performance goals and individual KPI’s
- Managing the operational and fiscal activities of the maintenance department to include: staffing levels, budgets, and financial goals
- Planning and developing systems and procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the department
- Determining the root causes of downtime and designing and implementing engineering solutions to eliminate those causes
- Monitoring daily plant maintenance activities to ensure priorities are met, ensuring immediate reaction to breakdowns and urgent work
- Ensuring completion of planned and unplanned maintenance tasks
- Preparing and submitting minor capital applications
- Managing nominated capital projects, including initiation, design and cost estimation, preparation of submissions, implementation and cost monitoring and control, completion and auditing of achieved savings and gains
About you:
- Degree qualified preferably mechanical engineering background
- Previous experience with continuous high-speed processing and/or packaging equipment in a food production environment or relevant experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Quality System Environments and PLC’s
- Considerable knowledge of manufacturing methods and practices
- Considerable knowledge and background in heating, boiler, air conditioning and refrigeration systems
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials and tools used in the maintenance of machinery such as pumps, compressors and valves
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in the maintenance of facilities and equipment
- Strong maintenance planning experience in a continuous process industry, within a high volume, high speed packaging environment
- Proficient use of AutoCAD, MS Office, and MS Project
- Excellent communications, analytical, planning and problems solving skills
- Experience leading and developing successful teams
- Proactive self-starter and ability to think ahead
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and overtime in line with the business requirements
