About the Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Plant Engineer, with a high-performance mindset, to join our management team at our Bordertown plant, located near the SA/VIC border.  Reporting to the Plant Manager and supported by the JBS group engineering leaders, this role forms an integral part of the management team and is accountable for leading our engineering/maintenance function of around 20 team members.  Your well-honed technical, plant operational and management skills will be fundamental to your candidacy, however success in this role requires a demonstration of leadership skills necessary in sustaining a culture of high performance, safety, team retention/development & continuous improvement. You will be known for your ability to develop collaborative & time critical solutions using solid engineering principles to support multiple operational functions performed on site.


Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

  • Lead the site engineering & maintenance function and support a staff of trades professionals, maintenance supervisor and planner.
  • Champion maintenance work management practices to maximise equipment reliability, minimise downtime and optimise time management of resources.
  • Engage with the wider site leadership team to ensure overall plant priorities are known, understood and met.
  • Budgeting and cost control of labour, overtime, R&M and individual projects.
  • Monitoring of daily plant maintenance activities to ensure priorities are known, agreed and met.


About you

  • A relevant engineering degree is essential and postgrad qualifications in maintenance management will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in a fast-moving food manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on & collaborative leadership skills, experienced in the management of people.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and motivate staff to continuously improve.
  • Strong capability to utilise problem solving tools such as PDCA, ‘5 Whys’ and KPI’s to drive an outcome.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound knowledge of WH&S and Environmental regulations and ability to drive safety improvements in a team environment.  
  • Experience with refrigeration systems and boilers would be an advantage.
