About the role:

An exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Technician – Automation exists as part of the Primo business.  This role is based at our Wacol Brisbane site operations.  The primary objective of this position is contribute to the success and profitability of Primo, optimise the processing of current and future machinery which enables automation, robotics and the integration of the high paced snacking lines.  This is a unique opportunity to join our exciting and ever changing organisation and be a part of the group’s continuous improvement program.

The Production Street plant employs approximately 50 people, operates 5 days per week, requiring full support from the maintenance team. Shift maintenance are utilised to provide the maintenance and repair capability.  The department includes management/supervision, engineering staff and engineering/purchasing support from McRoyle Street Engineering Department.



  • Develop and implement processes to maintain and improve the installation, commissioning and operation of new and existing equipment that are scheduled to be released to manufacturing
  • Improve reliability and effectiveness of the equipment that supports the manufacturing team in meeting safety, quality, delivery, and productivity goals.
  • Ensure the availability of the plant and equipment through the technical supervision and support of maintenance teams and contractors to ensuring safety, production, cost, compliance, planning, reporting and plant improvement outcomes are achieved.
  • Process equipment inspections, monitoring, recording and reporting of plant condition
  • Create standard work and program automation processes to optimise goal setting, estimation, scheduling, option identification, document processes and outcomes
  • Provide technical assistance for automation, integration and robotic projects related to improving equipment performance including root causes, corrective and preventive actions
  • Provide regular system operation training on automated systems to maintenance and operations personnel


About you:

  • Formal Trade qualifications as Fitter and Turner, tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering stream or similar
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings
  • Ability to modify, replace and commission mechanical equipment within a GMP environment
  • Able to use all workshop machines e.g. Lathes and milling machines
  • Welding experience of stainless steel. TIG welding
  • Thermoformer, tray sealer, dicer and slicer operational and maintenance knowledge desirable
  • Experience in maintenance supervision or management in a fast moving food manufacturing environment desirable
